The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) and the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) agreed on the 05.05.2015 that the VALL is to be known as an ‘Optional Side Marker’ lamp and can be used in conjunction with the vehicles lighting system when driving on the roads of the UK. The VALL can be retro fitted or fitted to new builds in the UK. The purpose of the VALL is to help the driver to see along the sides of the vehicle in poorer lighting conditions when driving, whilst at the same time making the vehicle and its intended actions more conspicuous to other road users. The VALLs project an ‘area of high risk’ (daylight intensities permitting) to other road users, which ought to be avoided
